Conformance Standard
AI Trace strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the standard adopted by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and required under the U.S. Department of Justice’s April 2024 Title II ruling for web assets used by state and local governments.
Measures to Support Accessibility
Trace Foundation includes accessibility as a requirement in our design system and development process. Interactive elements meet a minimum touch target of 44 by 44 pixels. We use semantic HTML landmarks (main, nav, header) and ARIA attributes throughout the portal. A skip-navigation link is provided on every page. Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements. We support user preferences for reduced motion, theme (light, dark, system), and font size (small, default, large). Color is never the sole means of conveying information.
Assessment and Testing
Accessibility is assessed through a combination of automated testing (axe-core integrated into our end-to-end test suite) and manual code-level audits against WCAG 2.1 success criteria. Our most recent accessibility audit was conducted on May 6, 2026.
Known Limitations
Briefing PDF documents generated by the portal are not fully conformant with PDF/UA (ISO 14289-1) due to limitations in our PDF rendering library. These documents include metadata (title, author, language) but do not contain a tagged structure tree. If you need a screen-reader-accessible version of any briefing, please contact us at the address below and we will provide an HTML or Word alternative.
Some UI component border contrast ratios may not meet the 3:1 minimum required by WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 1.4.11 (Non-text Contrast) in all color theme configurations. We are actively working to address this.
Compatibility
platform.aitrace.org is designed to be compatible with current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. It is tested with the NVDA screen reader on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS. The portal supports browser zoom up to 400% without horizontal scrolling.
Alternative Formats
If you need information from platform.aitrace.org in an alternative format (large print, Braille, audio, or a different digital format), please contact us and we will work to accommodate your request.
Feedback and Contact
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of platform.aitrace.org. If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please email [email protected]. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days.
